Starting a blog is like opening a restaurant. You are chained to it until you cry uncle. Customers demand more and tastier servings of your verbal stew and you are stuck in the kitchen trying to satisfy their hunger.
Nonetheless, I am compelled to launch TalkingToPixels.com because I believe the digital publishing industry is in need of a voice to articulate just how dreadful it is to operate in the current environment. I hope to incite change and motivate publishers to be better, distributors to be better and readers to adopt what I believe is a compelling medium. I also wish to reserve license to comment on general matters of digital Darwinism, societal upheaval and radio control flight.
I’ve been in the web business since 1996 and digital publishing since 2005. Over the past year, I have been immersed in the world of Adobe, Apple, Amazon and Android as it relates to our magazine, RC Pilot. Our publication taps into the power and engagement of the tablet to deliver fully interactive experiences (vs. digital photocopies) and we have no print counterpart. As such, we have invested our entire stack of chips on this new medium and have the scars to prove our mettle. My views on this industry are at times contrary to the wave of “current thinking,” but I assure you they will make you think. Stay tuned.
